So you’re a part of ECU 22, what now?
The end of senior year is an exciting time, as one chapter in your life is coming to an end and the next is only just beginning. It’s so important to make the most of your senior year in high school but also to begin preparing for college. Here’s some tips to help you do just that!
Go to everything!
As senior year wraps up, there are so many fun activities to attend. Go to all of the things your school offers such as prom, banquets and graduation – they are a great time to reflect back on the last four years! Events like these only happen once and they are such an important aspect to the ending of your high school years. Go to all of the sporting events you can to cheer on your friends and truly soak up the end of the year. All of the things that seem so small end up being the things you remember and look back on the most.
Spend time with friends and family
The summer before freshman year of college is filled with feelings of excitement as you prepare for the new adventure as well as the dreaded goodbyes that are coming. Take time to spend quality time with friends and family. After freshman year, people start getting summer internships and things that may keep them away from their hometown so it’s so important to treasure the time you have and make as many memories as possible.
Think about what you want to study
Choosing a major can be a difficult task. There are so many possibilities of what you can study at ECU. Spend time before you come in as a freshman reflecting on the things that interest you and looking into potential careers. Go to information sessions at orientation to learn about different programs. If you don’t know what you want to study, take the COAD class so you can explore different options while you’re getting acquainted with ECU.
Sign up for orientation and classes
Freshman orientation is a fun-filled and informative time. Be sure to sign up for orientation as soon as possible. At orientation you’ll be able to sign up for clubs and organizations, speak with an academic advisor and meet new friends. Orientation is a great time to get comfortable with campus and start preparing for the school year.
Signing up for orientation will also allow you to register for classes when freshman registration opens on May 23. Visit the Pirate Introduction to ECU Registration (PIER) website to learn more about how to prepare for registration.
Prepare to move into your residence hall
Housing assignments will be sent out by Campus Living in July. Utilize the checklist of what to bring and start coordinating with your roommate on how you want to set up your room. The more prepared you are on move-in day the smoother it goes! Remember that at ECU every room comes with a mini fridge and microwave so you don’t need to bring your own. Follow ECU Campus Living on Facebook or Twitter for the latest info on move-in details and tips.
Lastly, take time to think about what you want to get out of your experience at ECU. Think about what you want to accomplish. Establish goals and set the bar high, because in Pirate Nation students are encouraged to always chase after their dreams. We can’t wait to see you on campus in just a few short months!
