East Carolina University recognizes the important role community college advisors have in guiding students through their transition to a four-year institution. We hope this information will be useful as you assist students applying to ECU.
Thankful for Transfers Advisors Session
We invite you to join fellow advisors to learn more about ECU at this virtual session on September 7, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. We will discuss our academic programs, the application process, campus housing & dining, financial aid & scholarships, and much more. Get your question answered at our Q&A session.
Counselor Receptions
Join fellow counselors to learn more about ECU over dinner and drinks. During the 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. reception, you will learn about the ECU admissions process and detailed information about our individual degree programs from our award-winning faculty and staff. Learn about our academic support services and how they help our students succeed. You may even have the chance to take home ECU swag!

Transfer Profile
For the Fall 2020 semester, we received over 4,000 applications and enrolled a class of approximately 1,865 students. Below are a few transfer facts at a glance:
- The middle 50% of applicants offered admission had the following academic credentials: 2.60 – 3.40 GPA
- 72% of enrolled transfer students came from a NC Community College
- 34% of transfers are online students (five-year average)
- Our top transfer majors: Nursing, Management, Industrial Technology, Elementary Education, and Marketing
Transfer requirements:
- Minimum 24 hours of transferable college-level coursework (complete or in progress)
- Have equivalent credit for our English 1100
- Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for all college-level coursework attempted
All transfer students must:
- Submit an online application.
- Pay the $75 nonrefundable application fee.
- Submit ALL official transcripts from each college, technical institute, or university attended. Official electronic transcripts from most transcript services are accepted. Otherwise, please have all official documents sent in a sealed/signed envelope.

We have a valuable tool that can help you and your students discover more about ECU’s vast degree offering. Degree Explorer provides quick access to the following information for each degree program:
- The courses students in that program will take
- What makes that particular degree special at ECU
- Career opportunities the degree could unlock for graduates
The Honors College for Transfer Students
Do you have high achieving students who may be interested in the Honors College at East Carolina University? Transfer students accepted into the Honors College will receive a scholarship valued at $1,250 per semester for five semesters, among other benefits.
Students must meet the following eligibility criteria to receive an invitation to apply:
- Apply to ECU no later than December 8. A completed application includes transcripts from all institutions attended.
- Meet the following minimum criteria:
- 24 credit hours completed post-high school
- 3.5 cumulative GPA from all institutions
- Last institution attended must be a N.C. Community College
- Entering in fall term as a campus-based student

ECU Counselor Advisory Committee
The Counselor Advisory Committee consists of a group of high school counselors and transfer advisors from throughout North Carolina who have been identified as going above expectations with assisting students in the college search process.
Members of the CAC have the opportunity to learn about ECU’s academic colleges, student services, financial aid and scholarships, as well as to provide our office with critical feedback from their students.
