The Treasures of Greenville
East Carolina University is located in the city of Greenville, North Carolina. When I first arrived here I thought Greenville was just your typical city but as I got to know the area I realized there are hidden treasures all over. Greenville is a special place because as the home of the Pirates it provides a sense of community and Greenville and ECU feed off of each other in an incredible way.
Here is my list of some of the treasures of Greenville that I think everyone who comes to town should take advantage of:
The Greenway is a great place to walk, bike, run and explore! It runs for miles along the Tar River and around the university area. Along the Greenway you’ll find a brand new park with attractions for children and adults, an amphitheater, a dog park and more!
Freeboot Fridays are a fun event for the whole family! During football season, Freeboot Fridays take place in Uptown Greenville on the night before games. There you can find live music, food and festivities to get everyone excited for the home football game the following day!
There are so many local restaurants that are delicious I could not pick just one! In Uptown there are a lot of restaurants that are walking distance to campus. A few of my personal favorites are Sup Dogs, Winslow’s and Crossbones. All of these are great because they’re walking distance from campus and ECU students are typically working at them. Throughout Greenville there are places to eat for everyone.
Greenville is also full of great shopping! There are boutiques, university apparel stores, the Greenville Mall and strip malls all over the city. Whether you’re looking for game day apparel or for a fancy outfit, you’ll find a store that has just what you’re looking for.
Finally, there are always college specials going on at local businesses. Throughout the week the bowling alley and movie theatre both have college discount days. Also, some of the restaurants in Uptown hold weekly events such as musical bingo, trivia and karaoke that are fun for everyone!
