Free Application Week 2022 – FAQs

ECU is excited to participate in CFNC’s free application week, which is open to prospective freshmen from North Carolina. We also invite out-of-state students and transfer students to apply for free during this period as well using the application on our website.

Below are some frequently asked questions regarding free app week.

  • When will free application week happen?
    • Monday, October 17th through Friday, October 21st
    • This opportunity will close at 11:59pm on Friday, October 21st.
  • How do I apply?

    • NC freshmen can apply via CFNC or our website.
    • Out-of-state students and transfer students should apply via our website.
    • CFNC instructions:
      • Begin your college application with CFNC by first going to the Application Hub on CFNC.org
      • Select the button immediately to the right of the “Start an Application” paragraph.
      • Once you have found and selected ECU from the college list, select the appropriate application to complete.
      • Once you have selected the appropriate application for ECU, click the “Apply” button immediately to the right of the selected application name. Complete and submit the CFNC application.
      • If you don’t already have an ECU Navigator account, click here to create an account so that you can track the progress of your application.
      • Be sure to use the same email address on both your CFNC application and your Navigator account.
    • ECU website application instructions:
      • Click here to create an account or log in if you already have an account with us. Then click “Start New Application” to begin your application.
  • Can I apply to ECU using the Common App and still have my fee waived?
    • No. The application fee will not be waived for applications submitted via CommonApp. You must apply using the CFNC application or via our website during free application week to have your application fee waived.
  • Do I need to submit a fee waiver?
    • No. Your application fee will be waived automatically if you apply via CFNC (NC freshmen only) or our website during the week of October 17th through October 21st.
  • How do I claim in-state residency?
    • Complete the Residency Determination Service (RDS) process at: ncresidency.org
  • When will I be notified of my admissions decision?
    • Once all documents have been received for a student’s application, we will begin the review. We ask that you be patient during this time as processing may take longer due to an increased number of applications. Current turnaround time is around 6 weeks. Please feel free to check your Navigator account for an admissions decision. You will receive your decision via postal mail as well.
  • What applications are currently open?
    • Freshmen:
      • Spring 2023 and Fall 2023
    • Transfers:
      • Spring, Summer and Fall 2023
  • Can I attach transcripts or documents to my application?
    • If applying via CFNC:
      • Submit your electronic high school transcript (via CFNC) to ECU by one of two ways:
        • When submitting an online admission application, you can use the checkbox on the submission page, or
        • Directly from the Application Hub. When choosing this option, you’ll verify some basic information and then select East Carolina University (e.g. Fall 2023 Undergraduate Application) to send your transcript.
    • If applying via our website:
      • Students are asked to request to have their official documents sent directly to our office. Official documents can be emailed to admissions@ecu.edu (freshmen) or transfer@ecu.edu (transfers) or mailed to:
